Stop Facebook From Tracking You
When you log out of Facebook they aren’t necessarily done with you, in fact Facebook is following your every move across the internet and storing this information for 90 days. They say it is for improving security and its plug-ins but I think this is unnecessary. According to Security Now Episode 327, Steve Gibson states that “…data which the government cannot legally get without a warrant, it’s able to purchase.”
It turns out that the government is a huge customer of all of the data that we’re trying to keep control over. ~Steve Gibson
It’s not just about what Big Brother can obtain about you, its marketing and advertising companies that are able to place directed ads in Facebook just for you as well as aggregating your likes, personality, sexual orientation, or even your political affiliation based on your browsing habits. Some are mislead to think that if you don’t have a Facebook account you have nothing to worry about and that is incorrect, according to the USA Today article “Facebook also keeps close track of where millions more non-members of the social network go on the Web, after they visit a Facebook web page for any reason.”
Block Facebook Tracking
Stop Facebook tracking with some simple plug-ins called Disconnect Facebook or use the more versatile Disconnect that stops third parties and search engines from tracking the webpages you go to and the searches you do. These only work with Chrome, Firefox, and Safari (another reason to not use Internet Explorer). Below you can see the before and after of Facebook Disconnect actively working.
